“Enjoy this time now”
I am sure every young parent has heard this a hundred times from peers and older generations. It is one of the many words of wisdom you know to be true but aren’t sure how to put it into practice.
My appreciation and management of time came early and maybe more “naturally” in our house. I expected it to be an asset going into parenting.
But there is no experience in life to really prepare you for the nuances of raising a child- and accepting that fact of nature is more helpful than any plan I have come up with.
As the nature of managing time and the amount of it becomes more fluid, it becomes even more important for parents to enjoy time when it is available. This finding from a Harvard Business School study resonates more every day.
[There is a] “correlation between time poverty and misery. People who are ‘time poor’ are less happy, less productive, and more stressed out.”
Starting a business and building a family causes stress and tension that are unavoidable. But it also provides the perspective and priorities in life that help prevent being ‘time poor.’
Finding time to spend with family is a moving target at this stage of life, but finding ways to enjoy it is a lot of fun.
